Category: Educational The laryngeal prominence otherwise known as The “Adam’s apple” is large lump in the human neck formed by angles of the surrounding the larynx, typically visible in men and much less frequently visible in women. Men typically have wider, longer vocal cords and deeper growth of their thyroid cartilage, expanding the angle in growth. This is why it is larger and more visible in men. It can’t be altered, including in transgenders. “Transgender women” (biological men) still sound and look like men – because they are men and they always would be. It is rare for biological women to have a visible Adam’s apple, except for some women who suffer from malnutrition or extreme gland and bone lose.
