Social Media Platforms

Social media like twitter, FB and Instagram are
supposed to be neutral platforms, not publishers. For a
long time, they have received the legal protection of
neutral platforms, but if they abuse their platforms, they
can partly or totally lose such protections and have to
face the liabilities of what publisher’s face. The case on
potential removal of such legal immunity for social
media sites have been a hot topic for some time. It was
perceived as a presidential issue for his posts, but that
is wrong. This has been coming for some time. His
posts being flagged were simply the “last straw”.
Too many other people have had their posts flagged or
removed excessively. Blocking and deletion of posts
and tweets is only supposed to be if someone’s life or
property is in danger, not for people’s emotional
meltdowns or anger of spoken opinions or claims.
However, big social media has taking it too far for their
own partial narratives. Many users don’t think that their
behavior is a reflection of their maturity, disposition,
self-control or lack thereof any of the aforementioned.
We would expect to have free speech on the internet if
you look in the right places, which would be true if we
were all a people of critical thinking, insight, integrity
and subsense. Unfortunately, there are those people
who are out for themselves and abuse the privilege of
free speech, posting anything other than they know is
not true. I always run on the premise that the internet is
nothing more than what people post. The only thing
you may know is that they said it to begin with. This is
the reason why many things are takin down or deleted
and people blocking others. It’s they’re way of saying “I
don’t want to hear it”, “I don’t want to think it” and/or “The hell with someone who says it” We often refer to such people as snowflakes, crybabies or radical extremists.
Programs like Photo Shop, Microsoft Moviemaker and
many others have made it possible for people to come
up with bogues posts that they know are not true,
anything to get others to think what you want them to.
While all this fraudulent production of what is popularly
view as evidence, many Americans are showing how
vulnerable they are to propaganda. And yes, I am
posting here, but not to prove to you, but to give you
food for thought and insight as I do. I believe in the
truth. Some others do that too. However, we must sort
things out to determine what we can believe or discuss.
Instead of an abundance of community rules, social
media websites would be so much better served if they
were to take steps like: limit friends lists, make inboxes
and messengers features limited to one-on-one chats
and unable to circulate chain notices, regulating
excessive accounts, charge a fee for each block made,
and leave all posts up for all to see and let the reader
shed the opinion. The community rules could be cut in
half this way. Being “offended” by something is just as
much an opinion as the thing they are “offended” at. If
being “offended” by something was as true as claimed,
then everything is offensive in some way, no matter
when or how it is said. In this day and age, we are all
criminals for simply stepping outside our front doors.
